About the pictures above… Alta Harmon estimates the picture may have been taken in the early 1950’s. She comments that Shirley Allen is in the picture, which is interesting in that she died of typhoid fever some time after this picture was taken. There was heavy rain during one of the meetings, which caused the septic tanks to overflow into the water well. The resulting typhoid fever hit several people from drinking the polluted water at the meeting. Alta knows she was still in high school, and didn’t graduate until 1954, dating the picture before then.
Update: We have received a letter from Nelda (Doolittle) Sorrell, who identified a few additional names, and confirms the picture was taken in the summer of 1953. Thanks Nelda ! |
