4 Samuel Leroy (Roy) Porter

Samuel Leroy Porter was born September 06, 1892, in Arkansas City, Sumner County, Kansas, son of John Frank Porter and Lillie Mae Clark.  He was the oldest of 12 children.  Roy attended the Noble Avenue Baptist Church in Guthrie, Oklahoma.

Roy married Nina Mae Reynolds on August 30, 1916.   Nina was born on June 17, 1902 in Mulhall, Payne County, Oklahoma, the daughter of Harvey Campbell Reynolds and Mary Ellen Newberry.  Nina attended Southern Heights Baptist Church in El Reno, Oklahoma. 

Nina died January 25, 1984.  Roy died January 25, 1958.  They lie buried together at Summit View Cemetery, Guthrie, Oklahoma (block 33, lot 17A, purchaser: Roy Porter, cemetery record card reads “Nina Porter Sikes”).

Roy and Nina are living with her brother Forrest Reynolds.  Roy and Forrest are working as teamsters in the oil fields.  Son LeRoy is 2 years 4 months old.

The images below is from the April 19, 1910 Census in Clear Creek Township, Payne County, Oklahoma.  Frank and Lillie and the children are living and working on their farm.  Leroy is 17 years old.

Nina Reynolds is 8 years old.

Harvey Reynolds and family are settled on their farm.

Nina’s father, Harvey C. Reynolds is listed in the 1890 Oklahoma Territory Census as a homesteader in Rose Hill Township, Logan County (page 46) at N W 28-18-3.

The image below is from the June 23, 1880 Census in Vernon Township, Cowley County, Kansas.  Harvey Reynolds and his brother Ernest are Well Diggers from Wisconsin.  They may be waiting for the 1889 land run in Oklahoma to begin.

Leroy and Nina were married August 30, 1916 in Wichita, Kansas.

Lillie Mae Porter, 25, born September 1874 in Iowa, father and mother from Iowa. As of 1900, she has had 5 children, and 5 children were living.
