2 Rhoda Porter

Rhoda Porter was born about 1831 in Pennsylvania, the daughter of Thomas Porter and Freelove Clark.

She married twice:  her first husband was Elijah Stewart, married April 17, 1853 in Peoria County, Illinois.

Her second husband was George Cackler, they married about 1865.  He was born August 18, 1845 in Illinois, and died January 04, 1915, buried in Graceland Cemetery, Otto Creek Township. Lucas County, Iowa.

Josie Cackler, 3, daughter, born in Iowa, father from Iowa, mother from Missouri.

William M Cackler, 1, son, born in Iowa, father from Iowa, mother from Missouri.

Prudia Cackler, 5 months born December, daughter, born in Missouri, father from Iowa, mother from Missouri.

George Cackler, 33, brother, born in Illinois, father from Ohio, mother from Ohio, unemployed 10 months, disabled (crippled).

The June 4, 1900 Census at Lucas County Farm, Whitebreast Township, Lucas County, Iowa, records the following:

 

George Cackler, 53, born August 1846 in Illinois, single, mother from Ohio, occupation: Inmate.

The 1890 Federal Census was destroyed by fire.  However the 1895 Iowa State Census records the following persons living in Liberty, Warren County, Iowa:

 

Isaac Cackler, 73, born Ohio

George Cackler, 48, born Illinois

Lydaormos Cackler, 54, born Iowa

Thomas Cackler, 13, born Iowa

 

Following persons living in Otter Creek, Lucas County, Iowa:

Willias Cackler, 38, born Lucas County, Iowa

37 other persons named Cackler lived in Lucas County, Iowa.

Rhoda Cackler appears in the 10 June 1890 Oklahoma Territory Census (see it on microfilm at the Oklahoma Historical Society, page 18, and indexed at http://www.ok-history.mus.ok.us/lib/1890/C.html ) at location Township 19, Range 3, County Number One (Logan), Oklahoma, and states her place of birth as New York.  She is listed as head of household with her son John, 21, born in Iowa, and son Ira, 17, born in Illinois.

The November 8, 1850 Census in Township 11 N. 4 E., Knox County, Illinois records the following:

Thomas Porter, age 53, occupation “Cooper”, born “Mass”

(Note:  “Cooper” is a barrel maker, the name given to a person who makes wooden barrels.)
Freelove Porter, age 54, born “Mass”
Otis Porter, age 20, occupation Laborer, born NY
Philip Porter, age 17, occupation Laborer, born PA
Rhoda Porter, age 19, born PA

Lucy Porter, age 12, born Ohio
Henry Porter, age 9, born Ohio

Rhoda Cackler appears in the 1890 Smith’s Directory Homesteader List at homestead location “ne 4-19-3”  (NorthEast Quarter, Section  4, Township 19, Range 3.

Her brother John Henry Porter’s homestead was at “se 33-20-3”, across the fence to the north from Rhoda.

When John Henry Porter participated in the Oklahoma Land Run on April 22, 1889, his sister Rhoda Cackler homesteaded the property adjacent to the Porter claim. 

William Henry Cackler married Cora Belle Triggs.

The August 1, 1870 Census (seen below) in Otter Creek Township, Lucas County, Iowa, records the following:

Mary Cackler, 56, Ohio

Nelson Cackler, 18, Illinois

Willis Cackler, 14, Iowa

Elijah Stewart, 30, Farm Hand, born Ohio, working on the farm of Edmund Walsh.

George W. Stewart, 3, born Illinois

Harriet M. Stewart, 1, born Illinois

Text on reverse:

Ira Cackler his dady married my dady-dady sister.  Ira was Papa cousin.

Ira Cackler parents and Dady Frank Porter Parents made the run from Arkansas City to 4 miles west of Orlando in 1889.  One family drove a cow & crocked mule.
